Summer is winding down and the school bells will soon be ringing. In a few days our kids will be heading back to school and that means more time to focus on self-care. Back to school can be a stressful time for both parents and teachers. You have to purchase supplies, find a schedule, figure out who will be in your class, get your kids back into a routine of waking up early, and possibly even prepare them for a new school. This can all be very taxing on the adults involved which is why Symmetry is here for you.
We want you to take this time, now that the kids are back in class, to unwind and give back to yourself. Any parent or teacher knows that if a child doesn’t have a set routine, they become cranky and unmanageable. We have all heard the phrase, “Somebody didn’t get their nap today.” The same is true for adults. Having a solid daily, weekly, or even monthly routine is beneficial to your overall physical and mental health. Adding massage to that routine can increase the benefits of both your physical and mental health.
How many of you just have an off day if you don’t have time to sit and enjoy that first cup of coffee? What about watching your favorite show when you get home from work? Maybe it’s cooking dinner that relaxes you. Whatever it is that helps you let go of the punches the day threw at you, you know that going without that one part of your routine can throw off your entire day or week. Structure can help calm those moments of chaos. That presentation at work that didn’t go according to plan? So much easier to shake off when you know you have your daily workout to go to afterwards.
Having a routine can help us to cultivate positive daily habits and to prioritize self-care because taking care of yourself first allows you to give more back to others around you. That is why it is so important to maintain a regular schedule of health and well-being. Routine and time management have been shown to reduce stress which can help to ease anxiety and depression, not to mention improve sleep and mental clarity. So, how can you take the initiative to develop a healthy routine? Follow these simple steps and you will be on track to health and happiness in no time.
Decide on a goal that you would like to achieve for your health. (Eat healthier)
Choose a simple action that will get you towards your goal which you can do on a daily basis. (Menu planning, shopping for healthy foods)
Plan when and where you will do your chosen action. Be consistent: choose a time and place that you encounter every day of the week. (Every evening in the kitchen)
Every time you encounter that time and place, do the action.
It will get easier with time, and within 10 weeks you should find you are doing it automatically without even having to think about it.
Congratulations, you’ve made a healthy habit!
